Moroccan Décor

This type of home décor is increasingly becoming more and more popular in Western interior design, especially in the United States and the United Kingdom. The most important components of Moroccan décor are tiles, stone, plaster, woodwork, cast iron, brass, furniture, rugs, fabrics, lanterns, sconces etc.

Moroccan tiles, locally known as zellige, are magnificently designed ceramic tiles commonly used in bathrooms, kitchens, pools, patios etc. Different types of Moroccan tiles include mosaic tiles, chiseled tiles, hand painted tiles, and field tiles.

Moroccan lime plaster, professionally known as Tadelakt (derived from the Moroccan verb “dellek” meaning “to kneed or squash”), is commonly used to coat interior and exterior walls of Moroccan riads and kasbahs. It finds particularly heavy use in hammams and spas all over Morocco, which also has to do with the fact that it is durable, waterproof, and resistant to mould. Moroccans also like to use hand carved plaster moldings and ornaments on walls and ceilings

Moroccan carved woodwork, also known as Mosharabia or Mosharabi, is commonly used as ornaments to decorate windows, walls and ceilings in connection with Moroccan zellige tiles and other Moroccan interior design elements.
